We designed, constructed and built our first Drone Prototype Sparrow! It’s a big hexacopter (six propellers) with the catching mechanism mounted on top of the drone. The catching mechanism is for now a net fixed between rods. Our strategy is to fly from the bottom up to the victim drone. Doing so is easier for the sensors to detect the victim drone as the sky is a better contrast.
Unfortunately, Sparrow can’t fly right now as the electronics need to get mounted on the prototype. But we finished testing different motors with different propellers to find the best fitting solution for our requirements.
The software team managed to have the first successful Voliro flights in our small indoor flying arena. Furthermore, we started coding each software part separately and combining some of the parts.
